Experience Ndutu during calving season, when vast herds gather across the southern plains and thousands of wildebeest calves enter the migration story.
This four-day private safari is built around one of the most remarkable periods in the Great Migration: the Ndutu calving season. Typically between December and March, the migrating herds move through the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu region, with the precise location and timing influenced by seasonal rainfall.
Your safari begins in Arusha, where your private guide will collect you on the morning of Day 1 for the journey toward Ndutu. Rather than dividing four days between several national parks, this itinerary deliberately concentrates your time in the southern Serengeti ecosystem, giving you two full days to explore the plains and allowing your guide greater flexibility to follow current wildlife activity.
During the calving period, large concentrations of wildebeest and zebra gather across the region, and the presence of young animals can also attract predators including lions, cheetahs and hyenas. Wildlife movements vary naturally from season to season, so game drives are planned around the conditions and sightings on the ground rather than a fixed route.
After three nights in the Ndutu area, Day 4 begins with further wildlife viewing before the journey back to Arusha, where the safari concludes.
International arrival and departure arrangements are kept separate from the four-day safari. Airport transfers and accommodation in Arusha before or after the safari can be arranged according to your flight schedule.

After breakfast, your private safari guide will collect you from your hotel in Arusha and begin the journey toward the Ndutu region in the southern Serengeti ecosystem.
Travel through the changing landscapes of northern Tanzania, passing the Ngorongoro highlands before continuing toward the open short-grass plains associated with the Great Migration during the calving season.
As you enter the Ndutu area, the safari begins in earnest. Depending on the season’s rainfall and current herd movements, your guide will begin searching for concentrations of wildebeest and zebra while also keeping watch for resident wildlife and predators.
During the calving period, the wider Ndutu ecosystem can support large concentrations of migratory animals. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas and other predators are also found throughout the area, making this an especially dynamic period for wildlife viewing.
Continue your game drive before arriving at your selected camp or lodge for dinner and your first night in Ndutu.

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Ndutu ecosystem with your private guide.
After an early breakfast, head onto the plains in search of the migration herds. During the calving season, wildebeest and zebra move across this region according to rainfall, grazing conditions and water availability, so there is no fixed route for the day. Your guide will use current information and conditions on the ground to determine where to concentrate your game drive.
The presence of young wildebeest makes this an especially interesting period for observing animal behaviour. You may encounter mothers with calves, large herds moving across the plains and predators such as lions, cheetahs and hyenas taking advantage of the seasonal concentration of prey.
Because this is a private safari, the day remains flexible. When you find an interesting sighting, you can spend time observing rather than having to follow a rigid group schedule.
Enjoy lunch during the day and continue exploring into the afternoon before returning to your camp or lodge.

A second full day in Ndutu gives you something particularly valuable during the migration: time and flexibility.
Wildlife movements can change from one day to the next, especially as the herds respond to rainfall and fresh grazing. Your guide can therefore explore different sections of the Ndutu ecosystem based on the most recent conditions rather than simply repeating the previous day’s route.
The day may involve following large wildebeest and zebra herds across the open plains, spending time around areas where mothers and calves are concentrated, or searching for predators. Cheetahs are particularly suited to these open landscapes, while lions and hyenas are also commonly associated with the wider ecosystem.
There is no need to rush from one destination to another today. The entire day is available for wildlife viewing, photography and spending longer at particularly rewarding sightings.
Return to your camp or lodge later in the day for your final evening in Ndutu.
