Trade the Indian Ocean for the African bush with a short flight from Zanzibar and three nights of private safari in Mikumi National Park.
This four day fly-in safari is designed for travellers already in Zanzibar who want to add a genuine mainland wildlife experience without committing to a longer safari itinerary.
A scheduled flight takes you from Zanzibar to the Mikumi area, where three nights give you time to settle into the landscape and explore the national park with your private safari guide.
Mikumi National Park is known for its broad savannahs, acacia woodland and the Mkata floodplain, an important wildlife area within the park. Elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest and several antelope species can be encountered, while lions and other predators are also present.
With two full days available for game drives, the itinerary is deliberately unhurried. Your private vehicle and dedicated guide allow each day to be shaped around wildlife activity and conditions on the ground rather than a fixed group schedule.
After three nights in the Mikumi area, return to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Zanzibar moving from the bush back to the Indian Ocean in a single day.
Fly from Zanzibar to the Mikumi area and transition from island time to safari without a lengthy overland journey.
Stay for three consecutive nights, giving you time to experience the park without constantly changing accommodation.
Explore Mikumi’s savannahs, woodland and wildlife areas with two full days dedicated to private game drives.
Travel with your own safari vehicle and dedicated guide, allowing greater flexibility around wildlife activity and your preferred pace.
Your safari begins with a transfer from your Zanzibar hotel to the airport for your scheduled flight to the Mikumi area.
After leaving the Indian Ocean behind, fly across mainland Tanzania towards Mikumi. Flight schedules and routing can vary depending on the operating airline and travel date, so your confirmed flight details will be provided before departure.
On arrival at the airstrip, you’ll be met by your private safari guide and begin your first game drive as you make your way into the Mikumi landscape.
The park is characterised by open grasslands, acacia woodland and the Mkata floodplain, one of its important wildlife areas. Keep watch for elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, impala and other plains wildlife, while lions and other predators may also be encountered.
Later, continue to your lodge or camp, settle in and enjoy your first evening in the bush.

After breakfast, set out with your private guide for a full day exploring Mikumi National Park.
With no major transfer required today, the focus is entirely on wildlife. Your guide can adjust the route according to recent sightings, weather, road conditions and wildlife activity within the park.
Explore the open landscapes around the Mkata floodplain and surrounding woodland, stopping whenever something catches your attention. Elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and several antelope species can be encountered throughout the park, while Mikumi is also home to lions, leopards, spotted hyenas and other predators.
Your private safari vehicle gives you flexibility over the pace of the day. When you find an interesting sighting, there is no shared group schedule requiring you to move on.
Enjoy lunch during the day before continuing your game drive into the afternoon. Return to your accommodation later for dinner and a relaxed evening.

A second full day in Mikumi gives you more time to explore beyond the first impressions of the park.
Wildlife viewing changes from one day to the next, so your guide will plan today’s game drive according to conditions and recent activity rather than simply repeating yesterday’s route.
You may spend time around water sources, explore quieter sections of the park or return to an area where interesting wildlife activity was observed previously. The slower pace also creates more opportunities to appreciate the smaller details of the ecosystem — from birdlife and antelope behaviour to the interactions taking place across the savannah.
Enjoy another day of private game viewing, with time for lunch and breaks arranged around the day’s safari.
Later, return to your lodge or camp for your final evening in the Mikumi area.
