Descend into one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife landscapes for a private game drive across the Ngorongoro Crater floor, home to an exceptional concentration of wildlife — including the chance to spot the rare black rhino.
There are few safari arrivals quite like this one.
From the crater rim, the landscape drops away into a vast natural amphitheatre — grasslands, forest and wetlands spread across the crater floor below. Descend into Ngorongoro and that distant landscape quickly becomes one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife experiences.
The crater supports an exceptional concentration of wildlife, with lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and hyenas among the animals you may encounter throughout the day. It is also one of Tanzania’s notable areas for the critically endangered black rhino, although sightings are never guaranteed.
With your private guide and vehicle, spend the day exploring at your own pace, stopping for wildlife, photography and a picnic lunch before climbing back towards the crater rim.
One crater. One day. A ridiculous amount of wildlife.
Descend from the highlands to the crater floor, with the immense walls of Ngorongoro rising around you.
Search for lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas and more across the crater’s varied habitats.
Keep watch across the open grasslands for the critically endangered black rhino — one of Ngorongoro’s most special possible sightings.
Pause for a picnic lunch surrounded by one of Tanzania’s most remarkable natural landscapes.
Your day begins early in Arusha with your private guide, heading west towards the Ngorongoro Highlands. As the road climbs beyond Karatu, the landscape changes noticeably before you reach the crater rim and your first view into Ngorongoro below.
From here, descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor for a private game drive through one of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife areas. The scenery shifts between open grassland, woodland, wetlands and seasonal water sources, creating habitat for an extraordinary variety of wildlife.
Spend the day following the wildlife rather than a fixed route. Lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and hyenas are among the species you may encounter, while the critically endangered black rhino remains one of the crater’s most sought-after sightings. Your guide will read the conditions, recent sightings and animal movements to make the most of your time on the crater floor.
Around midday, pause at a designated picnic area for lunch before continuing your game drive through the afternoon.
Later, make the climb back to the crater rim and begin your return journey to Arusha, arriving in the evening after a full day in Ngorongoro.
